In all her glory, Miss Jamaica was widely embraced over the internet following the pageant. The hashtag #MissJamaicaShouldHaveWon even circulated Instagram and Twitter. The reason behind the uproar? Yes, because she’s intelligent, beautiful and graceful, but also because representation matters.
Davina recently shared a post that a little girl, Zaria Amiyah (@zariasdream) tagged her in, expressing her gratitude. It read:
@zariasdream
It is monumental to all of the ladies out there with brown skin and afro-textured hair to see someone with features like theirs being presented to the world as beautiful - something that hasn’t been as celebrated in the past. Little black girls at home can look at their TV screens and know that they can too, and we at EDEN feel that that kind of empowerment is both beautiful and essential. It must be celebrated and continued!
Congratulations Davina!
