Hair care with Bonnie + Faroukjames

Hey readers! My name is Bonnie and I'm the lucky mama to Faroukjames, whom you may know from Instagram. He's the one with the long and beautiful curls. Farouk is not my only child though, I have two others who are indeed not children any more, in fact they are parents themselves now!   I became a mother at a very young age, having three unplanned children from my childhood sweetheart by the age of 19. Farouk was my only planned child and there is a fifteen year age gap between Lucas and Farouk ( my two youngest boys).  People often assume I wanted another girl ( based upon Farouk's long curls) but that's not true, we wished for a boy. It was to be Farouk senior's first son, so excited were we on the day of the scan, hoping for the news of a boy. However, we were then shocked to only be told "Sorry, we cannot see the sex, only that this baby has heaps of hair!"  photo by @tabzwilson Luckily, I was prepared. My elder children are mixed (half Jamaican), so I already knew how to... MORE

Building a Confident Girl with Tamara South

Being a girl in this world can be difficult. There is so much influence telling you that you don’t look right the way you are. While confidence-building begins at home, the world around us has influence on the way we think about ourselves. I can attest to feeling like a fish out of water. I wanted to stand out but the risk of being made fun of by my peers led me to opt for blending in with the crowd instead. I had a low self-esteem not because of what was going on at home, but because of my peers. With a 4c hair type, wearing it out was not the “in-thing”. I wore a perm which helped stripped me of my identity. It actually wasn’t until I stopped getting perms that my confidence started to come back. Growing up, I dreaded wash days. My hair was full of tangles and my grandmother would use a brush to get through my wet 4c hair( a natural hair disaster). Fast forwarding to the present, I’m so grateful for the natural hair community of women who have taught me how to love and not just... MORE

Living Authentically with Britt Null

Last month I was blessed to celebrate another birthday.  Turning 31 wasn’t exactly a milestone birthday in the traditional sense but considering some recent life changes, it was a milestone for me. Thoughts about what the past 31 years of my life have been raced through my mind, and while contemplating, one word surfaced; authenticity.  Authenticity can be defined as “being true to one’s own personality , spirit or character”.  As I grappled with this word and the definition, several questions swarmed in my head. Have I lived an authentic life the past 31 years? Have I been true to my own personality, spirit and character? While soul searching I was hit with a couple major epiphanies. The first was that I had spent a large portion of my existence living bits and pieces of authenticity, but not fully. The second was the realization that I was constantly seeking experiences to fulfill this “authentic” self I so desperately needed to be. Whether it was through friendships, travelin... MORE

On the Grind with @TheEsperanzaMaria

Hey Beauties! Erin here; better known as @theesperanzamaria on Instagram, I am the creator of The Sunflower Experience and co-founder of Curl Talk DC. I stepped into the blogging world a little over a year ago now and it has been such an amazing experience filled with an immense amount of opportunity, love and support. Taking on this role has commanded a great amount of responsibility and time management skills. I am constantly on the move, so much so, I literally have-to schedule everything sometimes even just hanging with my friends has-to be scheduled down to the minute.   Now that school is back into full spring, I have to factor in school, work, blogging and attending events or doing shoots. All of this sounds like a whole lot, I know, but when you are passionate about something you never allow anything to get in your way. Even if that is sleep sometimes, in the words of Tommy Pickles “a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do,” although, in this case a blogger’s gotta d... MORE

Office Hours with Dr. Tolu Noah

This fall will be the beginning of my fifth year as a college professor, and it’s been an incredible journey thus far. I have the privilege of teaching the next generation of teachers, that is, undergraduate students who are preparing to become K-12 classroom teachers. My courses address topics such as curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, classroom management, technology integration, and the important role diversity plays in the classroom setting. Prior to becoming a professor, I was a 5th and 6th grade teacher for nine years. When I made the transition from K-12 to higher education, I was initially apprehensive about whether or not it would be a good fit. Would I enjoy teaching college students as much as I enjoyed teaching kids? Thankfully, the answer has been a resounding, “Yes!” While it’s definitely different and there are things that I miss from my K-12 teaching days, I truly consider it a blessing to walk alongside my college students in their journey towards becoming K-12 te... #LoveIsInTheHair

Last month we went in search of women across North America who truly love their hair. And we found them! Once we found them, we asked them to share their favorite looks with us, how they achieved them, and of course – how they feel when rocking their frocks styled with EDEN BodyWorks. Here’s what we learned: Wash n Go’s are a FAVORITE! Our Coconut Shea CoWash lets you finger detangle and leaves hair feeling super moisturized. For added definition, the Coconut Shea Curling Defining Crème is our #1 product for good reason.    "EDEN makes my hair feel alive again, which makes me feel confident with my natural beauty." – Donyell Johnson (Ohio) of @AdoreDonnie     "EDEN BodyWorks makes my hair feel soft, moisturized, and bouncy!" – Aysha Sow (New York) of @AfricanMelaninnn   Diffusers are a curly girl’s friend. Almost 1/3 of our wash-n-go beauties use them to speed up the drying process and fluff curls.   "EDEN makes my hair feel loved, healthy, and replenished!" – Krist... MORE
