Have you noticed that despite taking good care of your hair, it still feels lifeless, dull, and prone to breakage? If yes, chances are your hair is being affected by hard water. Hard water is essentially water that is high in minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals can wreak havoc on your hair, causing it to become dry, brittle, and unmanageable. In this blog post, we will discuss the signs of hard water on hair and provide tips on how to fix it and get your hair looking vibrant and healthy again.
Here is a list of the signs of hard water on your hair.
One of the most noticeable signs of hard water on your hair is that it feels dry, tangled, and dull. Hard water minerals can cause your hair to become brittle and prone to breakage. These minerals create a film on your hair that leaves it looking dull and lifeless.
If you've been experiencing an itchy and irritated scalp even after using a good shampoo, then hard water could be the culprit. The minerals in hard water can dry out your scalp and cause irritation, leading to dandruff and other scalp problems. Using a gentle shampoo like our Coconut Shea Moisture Shampoo can help but you may also need to adjust your water source or add a water softener to your showerhead.
Another sign that you are dealing with hard water is the difficulty in rinsing shampoo and conditioner from your hair. Hard water minerals make it difficult to rinse out hair products completely which can leave your hair feeling greasy and weighed down.
If you love coloring your hair, you may want to be cautious of hard water. The minerals in hard water can strip away hair color molecules, causing your color to fade faster than normal. If you're seeing color fading faster than normal, your hair is most likely affected by the hard water you’re using.
Fortunately, there are a few ways to fix hard water hair damage. You can install a water-softening shower head because it will help remove minerals from the water, making it easier on your hair and skin. A deep conditioning treatment can also help to moisturize your hair and alleviate any dryness caused by hard water. Additionally, using a leave-in conditioner (Coconut Shea Leave-In Conditioner) can help to protect your hair from future damage.
Aside from fixing hard water damage, there are a few other things you can do to keep your hair healthy and shiny. First, make sure to wash your hair with lukewarm water rather than hot water. Hot water can strip away natural oils from your hair, leaving it dry and prone to damage. Also, limit your use of heat-styling tools because they can cause damage and breakage.

There's nothing like having a great hair day, but it can be frustrating when your hair is limp and lifeless. If you're looking for ways to add volume to your hair, you've come to the right place. In this blog post, we'll go through four methods that will help you get more volume in your hair.
One of the simplest ways to add volume to your hair is by using volumizing products. Look for shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that are specifically formulated to add body and fullness without weighing down your locks. These products typically strengthen strands, and seal in hydration.
The products we recommend are:
Cleansers (it's key for volume to start on clean hair):
Hot rollers or flexi rods are great tools for adding volume and texture to flat hair. Learn how to use both of these tools

How do you use flexi rods?
Stylers that enhance definition & volume:
Thick hair: Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme
Fine Hair: Coconut Shea Pudding Souffle
Refreshers after styling:
To lift your roots, take a small section of hair at the crown of your head and hold it straight up. Use a wide-tooth comb to lift your roots by sections. Repeat this process on other sections of hair until you achieve the desired level of volume.
There are numerous ways to add volume to your hair, and these four techniques are just a few options to help you achieve this. By using volumizing products, elevating your roots, and maintaining regular haircuts, you can attain the full-bodied appearance you desire, making heads turn wherever you go!

Pros
Pain-free detangling: One of the biggest advantages of a detangling brush is that it makes the process of detangling pain-free. Unlike traditional combs and brushes, the bristles are designed to gently glide through your hair, separating each strand without pulling or tugging. This reduces the risk of breakage, hair loss, thinning, and scalp irritation.
Time saver: Detangling brushes are designed to work quickly and efficiently. You can run the brush through your hair a few times and quickly detangle your hair without spending hours combing through it.
Easy to use: Detangling brushes are super easy to use and you can use them on wet or dry hair. Run the brush through your hair, and the bristles will do the work for you!
Our fave pick: Brush With The Best
Cons
May cause frizz: Detangling brushes can cause frizz, especially if you have curly or wavy hair. The bristles can disrupt the curl pattern and cause the hair to frizz up. To avoid this, use a leave-in conditioner to help smooth out your hair before using the brush.
May not work on severe tangles: While detangling brushes can work wonders on mild to moderate tangles, they may not work on severe tangles.
Pros
Ideal for detangling hair: A wide tooth comb is great for detangling hair with minimal breakage. The teeth of the comb are spaced wide apart which helps them to glide through the hair strands easily without snagging or pulling.
Suitable for thick and curly hair: A wide tooth comb is ideal for people with thick, curly, or wavy hair. It can help to reduce frizz and enhance curl definition because it doesn't disrupt the hair's natural curl pattern.
Promotes hair growth: Combing your hair with a wide tooth comb stimulates the scalp, enhancing blood circulation that promotes hair growth. It also prevents hair from getting damaged so you can have strong, healthy, shiny hair.
Easy to use: Wide tooth combs are easy to use and come in different sizes, shapes, and materials so there are many options to choose from.
Our fave pick: Eternally in Amber
Cons
Not suitable for fine hair: Wide tooth combs are not recommended for people with fine hair because they can cause breakage and damage to the hair. The large teeth can tangle the hair or pull it out leading to split ends.
Not precise: If you need to create a specific hairstyle, a wide tooth comb may not be the most precise tool for the job. It doesn't give you the control or precision you need for intricate styles.
Pros
Convenience: One of the best things about styling your hair with your fingers is the convenience factor, you don’t need any styling tools.
Versatility: Styling your hair with your fingers can allow you to create a wide range of styles whether you want loose waves or tight curls.
Damage-free⎯: Unlike styling tools, your fingers won't damage your hair with excessive heat. This makes it a great option for people who are trying to cut down on things that can damage hair.
Cons
Messy: Without the styling tools you usually use, your hair can easily become tangled and lose its shape. You will probably have to keep messing with your hair to keep it in the style you want.
Limited styling: While some hair types can be styled with only your finger, other types require specific tools to style your hair.
But before you get too comfortable with setting your new 2024 resolutions, this is a good time to take a breather and see if any bad hair habits need to be broken before moving forward. When it comes to hair we often hear our curlfriends say they want to achieve length, volume, fuller edges, and more. But what they fail to realize is that with poor styling techniques or lazy maintenance rituals, your curls can be left even more damaged at the end of the year than at the start of the 365-day journey.
If you have curly hair, you may unknowingly be doing things that you don't even realize are damaging your hair. Don’t worry, we’re here to help you out. In this post, we'll be sharing the 5 bad hair habits to break if you have curly hair so you can achieve healthier and more luscious locks.
Skipping wash day can lead to a number of problems such as the buildup from products, sweat, and general dirt which can cause scalp irritation, dandruff, and even hair loss. Another factor that skipping wash day can do is impact the way hair looks⎯ buildup can lead to flat, limp curls that lack the usual volume and definition. It's important to give our scalp a good cleanse, so by implementing a consistent wash day routine, it gives curls a chance to be refreshed! Our Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo and Coconut Shea Moisture Shampoo are great products to use in your washing routine to make your curls shiny and glossy.
Understanding hair porosity is an essential factor in determining which products and routines are most appropriate for your hair, and it tells you how easy it is for your hair to absorb and retain moisture. If you're unsure of your hair's porosity level, check out our links to low hair porosity and high hair porosity. If you have any questions about hair porosity and the products you should use, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Detangling hair can be a daunting task, especially if your hair is prone to tangles and knots. Some people recommend detangling your hair from the the root of your hair to the tips, however, it’s better to gently detangle your hair from tips to roots. Detangling your hair this way is a more gentle and effective approach and not only prevents damage and breakage, but it also promotes healthy hair growth. Our Peppermint Tea Tree Detangling Conditioner is great to use for detangling your hair.
Overusing products can weigh hair down and lead to buildup and damage. From hairsprays to serums to styling creams, it can be overwhelming to figure out which products are actually beneficial for your hair and which ones aren’t. At the end of the day, the key to simplifying your hair routine is to keep it easy. Stick to your go-to products, and build out your regimen from there.
Constantly running your fingers through your hair can actually do more harm than good. You should avoid running your hands through your hair because it can remove moisture from your tresses. This might not seem like a big deal, but moisture is vital to hair health. Without sufficient moisture, hair can become dry and brittle, leading to breakage and split ends. To maintain healthy hair, it's best to keep your hands away from your mane.
If you want to maintain healthy, beautiful curls, it's important to break these 5 bad hair habits. By using the right tools and products, you can protect your hair from damage and help it maintain its natural shape and texture. Remember to be gentle with your hair and use products that are designed specifically for your curly hair type. These simple tips can help you keep your hair shiny and flourishing!
]]>If you’re using a clarifying shampoo, switch it out for a moisturizing shampoo and a cowash. Using a moisturizing shampoo and cowash can have several benefits to your hair during the winter months. They help add extra hydration to your hair and scalp, reduce frizz and tangles, prevent breakage, split ends, and hair loss. We recommend that co-washes are used in between regular washings so your hair will feel soft, smooth, and healthy.

Using a deep conditioner every time you shampoo can help restore the moisture and hydrate your hair. Deep conditioning treatments provide essential nutrients to your hair and help prevent future damage so your hair remains strong, healthy, and more resistant to environmental stressors. We recommend deep conditioning every time you shampoo or a masque with a steamer once a month.

Conditioner: Lavender Aloe Anti-Breakage Deep Conditioner
Masque: Coconut Shea Hair Masque Treatment
It’s important to do a monthly hot oil treatment to help penetrate moisture and soften hair. The heat opens up your hair cuticles which allows the oil to penetrate deep into the hair shaft and scalp. Hot oil treatments also help to improve blood circulation in the scalp, which can encourage hair growth with both length & volume. TIP: It's a good idea prior to applying oil to your scalp and hair for the full treatment to test a small patch to assure it's the right temperature.

Just like having to add extra layers when it comes to your wardrobe the same applies when it comes to your haircare regimen. Layering products and swapping them out for thicker ones can combat the outdoor winds from absorbing all of your moisture from your curls and coils. Switching to heavier styling products can be a game-changer for dry hair. These products will help to hold your style in place while also adding hydration and shine all day long!

Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme or Pudding Souffle
Oh, your delicate ends! Remember that your ends are the oldest parts of your strands which means they're the most fragile and prone to breakage. Sealing the ends of your hair with oil or butter can protect it from damage, lock in moisture and coat strands to resist unnecessary frizz. Also, make sure you're sleeping with a bonnet or satin scarf at night to ensure your ends are protected. Especially, if your goal is length retention this will help with achieving your hair goals for 2024.

Winterizing your hair care routine doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming. These simple changes such as using a moisturizing shampoo and cowash, applying hot oil, and protecting your ends can make a huge difference in your hair’s health and appearance. We’re sure your hair will love the pampering!
]]>That being said, one of the reasons to have such a love affair with your texture is the versatility it provides including stretching your hair. And the good news is that you don't have to compromise the health of your curls. In this blog post, we will discuss ways to safely stretch, let's jump into it!
Stretching Hair
One of the easiest ways to reduce hair shrinkage is by stretching your hair. There are several ways of stretching your hair, including banding, threading, braiding, and twisting. When you stretch your hair, it pulls it taut, encouraging it to dry in that position, making it harder for it to shrink when it dries. This creates elongated curls and is more manageable and easier to style. It's important to note that while stretching the hair can help reduce shrinkage, too much stretching can damage the hair's cuticle. Be gentle when manipulating your hair and pour a little extra 'patience' into your detangling routine during preparation of your style.
Try this: Peppermint Tea Tree Hair Milk
Protective Styling
Protective styling is another great way to reduce hair shrinkage. This technique involves styling your hair in a way that protects the ends of the hair from damage and prevents tangling. A few great go-tos include twists, faux locs, braids, and buns. Protective styles also reduce the amount of manipulation required to maintain the hair, which can reduce shrinkage and retain your hair length. Take note not to leave your hair in one of these styles not more that 6-8 weeks because as you have new hair growth, it puts pressures on your strands that can result in the breakage you're attempting to prevent.
Try this: Peppermint Tea Tree Hair Oil
Blow Drying
Blow-drying is another way to stretch and elongate your hair, but it should be done with caution to avoid heat damage. When blow-drying hair, it is important to use a heat protectant, set the blow dryer on a low heat setting, and hold the dryer at least six inches away from the hair. Try to limit blow-drying to once every two weeks to prevent heat damage.
HAPPY BLOWOUT SEASON!
]]>First, understand that hair breakage and hair loss are not the same. It is natural to shed hair every day, but it is considered breakage when there are shorter pieces of hair breaking off when you are combing or styling it.
If you are struggling with breakage, you could also be struggling with length retention. If the hair can’t stay strong from root to tip without breaking off, then it will not retain its length. Keke (@kekecurly) shares the difference between the hair breaking off and shedding.

For the most part, hair breakage is reversible and can be treated by simply taking the steps to find products that work for you as well as getting your hair trimmed on a regular basis. Here are some common causes for hair breakage. See if there are any changes you can make to your regimen to help your tresses.
Tight hairstyles - Wearing your hair repeatedly in buns, cornrows, and box braids could lead to hair breakage or hair loss due to constant pulling at the root. The same goes for using rubber bands which pull on the scalp and hair cuticle. Instead, invest in a good hair tie or scrunchie that allows you to wear your hair looser to avoid pulling out strands during the takedown. Tip: Allow your hair time to breathe by letting it down every now and again.
Frequent use of heat - We've all heard about the risk of heat damage when using blow dryers and flat irons. The heat can be very drying and damage the cuticle if done too often. It is best to use heat in moderation and prep hair with products, a thermal protectant.
Trimming - It’s time to trim! Don’t be afraid to let go of those loose ends. Cutting off the broken ends will stop the hair from splitting higher up the strands. Tip: It is recommended to trim your hair three to four times a year.
Diet - Another cause of breakage could be attributed to your diet and the nutrients you could be missing from your meals to maintain healthy hair. For example, eggs and fish contain biotin, a vitamin commonly recognized as a factor in helping to grow healthy hair. If you are unable to get all the vitamins needed from your meals, consider taking vitamin supplements.
Stress - Maintaining healthy hair can seem a bit stressful, which can actually worsen your breakage. EDEN strives to make wash days stress-free, which is one of the reasons we created our Lavender Aloe collection. Don’t look at your hair as a chore, but as a time to cater to yourself by pampering your curls.
Hair products - Watch out for products that contain harmful additives. All of EDEN's products are made with clean ingredients (click here for vegan-friendly options). Be extremely careful when relaxing, perming or coloring your hair because you could damage your hair if not treated properly. Your hair could become more susceptible to breakage due to its weakened state.
Slowly making these changes to your hair routine and diet can be beneficial in restoring your hair to a healthier state.
Wash your hair - It is important to wash your hair routinely to help keep your scalp healthy. Even when you have a protective style in your hair, it is important to cleanse the scalp. A popular method while wearing a protective style is to use a bottle with an applicator tip. This will help to prevent the hair from frizzing at the roots while shampooing.
Steam time - Deep conditioning your hair is very important because it gives your hair the protein and nutrients that it needs. If you routinely take time to deep condition your hair, it will strengthen your hair and help to prevent breakage. Adding steam to your deep conditioning treatment can be a great benefit. The steam adds moisture to your hair, which will help to keep it hydrated. It is very essential to keep your hair moisturized because dry hair is more vulnerable to breakage.
Lastly, don't forget to select products for your routine that will nurture your hair and not cause any further damage. Here are a few of our curlfriend faves:

Porosity deals with your hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture, which is largely based on the structure of the outermost layer of hair, known as the cuticle. There are three types of porosity: low, medium and high. The type of porosity your hair has will affect how easily oil and moisture pass through it, and your hair’s ability to hold on to that moisture.
Why is it important to know your hair porosity?
Learning your porosity will help you to better manage and treat your tresses. It can also help in deciding which products will respond best to your hair, based on the ingredients.
How do you learn what porosity type you have?
Well, it’s actually quite simple. First, you’ll need to wash your hair to remove any dirt and/or product that has built up on the surface. Then, you’ll want to fill a glass or clear bowl with water. After, take a strand of clean, dry hair and place it in the water. Leave the strand of hair in the water for about 3-5 minutes. Now, check for the results!
The location of your strand will determine which kind of porosity you have.
Low porosity hair
If you have low porosity hair, then your strand of hair will float on top of the water. This means that it takes much longer for the strand to absorb moisture because the cuticles are so tightly bound. It also means that it will take your hair a longer time to air dry.
Medium porosity hair
If you have medium porosity hair, then your strand of hair will float somewhere in the middle, taking its time to sink towards the bottom of the glass. Medium porosity is also known as “normal” porosity because it doesn’t experience any trouble retaining moisture or air drying in a moderate amount of time.
High porosity hair
If you have high porosity hair, then your strand of hair will sink towards the bottom of the glass. This means that water and moisturizing products can easily be absorbed into the strand because the cuticles have gaps and holes. High porosity hair, however, tends to break easily and air dries very quickly.
Low porosity hair
The key to caring for low porosity hair is to open the cuticles and provide deep moisture to the hair shaft. Products containing protein often have difficulty penetrating the cuticle, so it’s best to avoid them. Instead, use protein-free products, like our deep conditioning Lavender Aloe Anti-Breakage Deep Conditioner, because it is much easier for the hair to absorb and it’s designed to repair the strand while delivering moisture deeply into the hair shaft. Using a steamer when deep conditioning can be very beneficial because it helps open up the cuticles to allow in more moisture.
High porosity hair
For those with high porosity hair, it’s best to use products that help lay down the scales of the cuticle to shrink the gaps that allow moisture to escape. Moisture retention is the key to length retention and healthy hair. Opt for products with ingredients like butters and oils; these will aid in locking the moisture into your hair. Shea Butter is a good sealant for high porosity hair so selecting an item from our Coconut Shea collection, would work well for keeping your hair hydrated. To help with retaining moisture, adding a leave-in conditioner and sealant to your regimen is highly recommended.
It’s also best to reduce your usage of heat overall, because heat tools have a tendency to increase porosity. If eliminating heat is not an option, be sure to use heat protectant products when you do use it, as these create a barrier between your hair and the direct heat, limiting the amount of potential damage.
It is recommended that you use the LCO method if you have low porosity. The LCO method is liquid or watery leave-in, cream, and then oil. It’s best to use light liquids and cream in your hair routine to avoid product buildup.
For high porosity, it is recommended to use the LOC method. If you choose to use a leave-in, then selecting one that is creamy is preferable. You should also be careful not to use too many heavy creams because it can weigh down the hair overall.
It is important to think about other factors along with porosity type when selecting one of EDEN’s products to add to your regimen. Factors like the density of your hair, protein sensitivity, and your regular hair regimen will also need to be considered. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
]]>Hello, anniversary month!
With record high temps and the humidity aggressively greeting you at the doorstep, staying cool is at the top of our agenda for summer hair. Yes, please, and thank you!
That being said, we’re here to help you beat the heat with a few summer tips to ease stress and keep your tresses maintenance to a minimum. With more island trips, rooftop brunch dates, and the last droplets of outdoor festivals happening this month, let your summer hair have its own care-free vacay as well. No matter, if you’re wearing coils, curls, locs or straight we have at least a few hair tricks that will get you through the end of summer. So let’s get to it….
Accessories: If we had to pick the villain of this season, the number one enemy to our styles would be humidity hands down. Yes, we appreciate the moisture that humidity can bring but does it have to steal our definition every single time it decides to makes an entrance? Enters our holy grail, curly girl approved, humidity-resistant Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme, a great shield in this battle~ controls frizz, protects definition, and gives a medium hold. It has a history of unapologetically slaying humidity ASAP.
But once you’ve taken your twists down, add another level of protection and don’t be afraid to use accessories to preserve your looks while commuting to your destination. Try a cute yet stylish scarf to secure your summer hair. And even, the above cap hack will help block the humidity. Head to the bathroom take off your headwear, pick the hair out, shake and you’re ready to go!
Don’t touch: Frizz can do bad all by itself, it doesn’t need your hands constantly touching your hair to help it along. Translation: curlfriend, please stop caressing your strands. I know you love the feel of a soft selfie-worthy wash n’ go or a moisturized twist out but you're undoing all of the hard work you've invested in your wash day (causing fairy knots too). Ensure frizz stays away by actually protecting your beautiful mane and getting your 6-8 hours of ‘beauty rest’ too. Ideally, every night you should wear a scarf or bonnet. No judgment sis because we've all been victims to the tired nights dozing off on the couch with nothing on our curls and waking up a misshapen curly fro.
LAZY NATURAL TIP: keep a scarf or bonnet near your resting areas so in those exhausting times you can just reach for it without even getting up.
Let them dry: We all love a cool sensation on our scalp, especially coming in from 90-degree weather. Moisturizing your locs and scalp can help prevent breakage and dryness while keeping them strong and healthy. But make sure you’re giving them enough time to dry before going to bed. Going to bed on a consistent basis with wet hair can promote mildew growing in your locs and also cause further damage as well as frizz. If your scalp needs a refreshing pick-me-up and your locs need some additional shine try our Peppermint Tea Tree Hair Oil or Lavender Aloe Hair Oil.
TIP: Plan ahead. And if you’re too tired to do a complete wash day, put it off another day so you give your hair time for each step including drying them. This goes for braids too.
Did you know that hair is made up of a protein called keratin? Because of this, it’s important to incorporate enough protein into your diet to maintain healthy hair growth and prevent hair loss. Some of the best sources of protein include chicken, fish, nuts, and seeds. Vegetarians can consume protein-rich options such as tofu, legumes, tempeh, and quinoa.
Don’t forget to fill your plate with essential vitamins! Vitamins such as vitamin C, D, and E and minerals like zinc, iron, and biotin are essential for maintaining healthy hair. Including vitamin C rich foods which can promote collagen production to help strengthen hair. Also, eating salmon for vitamin D or spinach for iron can help keep your scalp healthy.
Drinking enough water is crucial not only for your overall health but also for your hair and scalp. Dehydration can make your hair dry and brittle and even weaken hair follicles. Ensure to drink at least 2 liters of water every day; also, include hydrating foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges in your diet.
Did you know that getting a trim can actually help your hair grow longer and healthier? I know it might seem weird to cut your hair when you're trying to grow it out, but trust us, it's necessary especially if you have curly or coily hair. Regular trims (every eight to twelve weeks) can keep your hair healthy and free of split ends because they often curl back into themselves and cause knots. So, don't be afraid to schedule the next appointment to get your hair trimmed—it will thank you!
Protective styling is a great way to prevent damage caused by styling tools, weather, and even just normal wear and tear. This can include styles like braids, twists, or buns that tuck your hair into a protective style. Also, using a silk or satin pillowcase when you sleep with your hair in a loose bun or braid can help prevent breakage and tangling.
The high heat from styling tools can cause long-term damage to our locks, leaving them dry, brittle and prone to breakage. Understanding how to properly use your styling tools and incorporating haircare products with restorative properties can help mitigate this damage, ensuring that your hair stays healthy and shiny. Also, air-drying your hair or using a diffuser on a low heat setting can be a great way to reduce heat damage.
Caring for your hair consistently is essential to maintaining its health. This can include washing your hair regularly with a gentle shampoo and conditioner, giving your hair regular deep conditioning treatments, and using a weekly clarifying shampoo to remove buildup. Try to also avoid excessive brushing or combing, and sticking to gentle detangling practices can help prevent damage and breakage.

]]>Tik-Tok ready twists, Pinterest style pin-ups or even the Insta-envy waist-length faux locs; what do all of these styles have in common? Answer: The finishing touch to each of these looks are unapologetically laid edges!
We’ve all witnessed it before as our thumbs lead us on a scrolling marathon to our fave beauty influencers’ page. Those side profile closeups of perfected hairstyles showcasing their bountiful and beautiful edges. There’s just something so appealing about seeing impeccably neat swirls and waves, right?
But what about the beauties who strategically hide their edges due to their thinning hairline? Yes, as much as we would love to embrace and pretend that our hair is thriving every season, we have to admit sometimes that may not be true in every case. Remember, there is a major difference between baby hairs and breakage.
So, if you’re striving to revitalize your edges and nape hair, bookmark this blog because this read is for you! But before we roll out 10 ways of getting your hairline flourishing before the spring buds bloom let’s dive into a few causes. This way you can break bad habits and prevent them from appearing again in the future.
Puff, bun + braids addiction is real! How can you not love low maintenance + timesaver styles? It’s the dream for convenience but your edges may be living a nightmare if you’re not careful. If you’re constantly wearing tight styles they can easily lead to tension, friction and eventually hair loss. Stress can also be a disruptor to your overall hair cycle and cause follicles to pause growth temporarily. When this happens, it’s typical that when the stress stops, hair resumes its normal cycle. Tip: If stress creeps up on you every time you think about dealing with your coils, take a deep breath and reimagine your wash day to prioritize your self-care.
(naturealizta.beauty via Instagram)
Now that we have the causes out of the way, let’s dive into the solutions!
Bonus Tip: Thou Shall Love Thy Bonnet! ~ Make sure when you’re wearing your bonnet it’s giving you full coverage from your edges to your nape and it has full satin lining around the hairline.
Follow these steps with just a sprinkle of patience and you’ll be throwing your edges a welcome-back party in no time!
EDEN: What first inspired you to get locs?
ALYSSIA: I always knew that I would have locs at an early age. I was inspired by the new Loc community that was budding back on Youtube around 2008/2009. I was newly natural, married, just had a baby boy and was desperate for change. I remember learning how versatile locs were and was set on growing my own set. I researched until I took the plunge and started my locs via two strand twists.
EDEN: What inspired you to switch back to a loose natural?
ALYSSIA: I’ve been loc'd for almost 10 years and honestly….I needed something new. Being a Digital Creator and teaching others different styles, new ways to care for your locs…I kinda felt like I had given all I could give. I started to not enjoy it like I did in the past. I can honestly say that I’m ready to focus on my hair health and learn how to embrace my curls again.
We know our hair can be a daily emotion - good hair day, bad hair day, easy hair day, etc. Understanding how Alyssia was feeling before, after, and during the transition was important to share.
EDEN: What was the process like of removing your locs?
ALYSSIA: The process was very emotional. I literally cried because I felt the detachment, not only from my locs but everything that I’ve gone through while growing them. I was very sad, but once I finished, I felt liberated! I did cut the majority of the locs out because I was aiming for a certain loose tapered natural style. I used conditioner and a fine tooth comb to remove the rest. It didn’t take me that long. I was so amazed to see my soft curls after almost 10 years! I called my mom and sister and cried on FaceTime. I'd say it was a very emotional moment.
EDEN: How has the journey been with the loose natural hair?
ALYSSIA: So far, it’s been a dream! I visited my barber and opted for a tapered look with my curls on top. I went low to get a fresh start and my little curlies on top are already flourishing! I think the only con for me is that I will definitely have to learn my loose hair again. My locs were so low-maintenance and now I am officially remembering the work that goes into caring for curly hair.
EDEN: Do you think you will ever return to locs?
ALYSSIA: It’s possible, but after 10 years…I’m ready to see what I can do with my natural curls. This has been such an emotional leap for me, I want to take my time and enjoy my new look, my newfound freedom. I enjoyed every single year of having locs and now…it’s time to move on.
EDEN: What did your hair care routine look with locs and how has it changed?
ALYSSIA: With locs, I had gotten my routine down to a science! (Lol) I focused more on clarifying shampoos, protein treatments and leave in conditioners. All my products were simple and a little on the frugal side. I washed it every two weeks, threw some leave in and I was done. Now that I’m rocking my curls, I know that there’s a lot more steps and time that will be involved…I’m actually excited for that! I received some goodies from EDEN BodyWorks (THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH) that I am using and I can already tell how rejuvenated, conditioned and seriously moisturized my curls are!
EDEN: How did those around you (friends, family, others) react to your decision to get locs vs. the decision to return to loose natural?
ALYSSIA: I am very blessed to have such a supportive family! Literally everyone was on board for Locs & returning to a loose natural. My family has seen my transition and can fully understand where I was 10 years ago versus where I am today. I was 24 years old starting locs and excited to begin a journey that no one in my family had gone through. So they learned a lot from about product, became interested in styles I came up with and they heavily supported me becoming sort of an influencer in the Loc community. Now at 34, they have witnessed my growth, and can see me emerge into a woman that’s embracing positive change.
EDEN: Did their reactions have any influence on your decision to move forward?
ALYSSIA: I honestly like to throw ideas around with them, but ultimately if it’s on my mind..that pretty much means that I’m going to do it anyway (lol). My hair and hairstyles have always been important to me. If I have a mental picture of a particular style…I’m going with it.
I am most looking forward to learning how to keep my curls healthy & strong. With this change I am also looking forward to elevating my personal style, so I’m excited to start shopping.
Advice for those thinking about getting locs or transitioning from locs to loose natural?
My advice would simply be : DO YOU. If you want to loc your hair, do plenty of research. Find some loc inspiration on social media and get an idea of what you want. You can do your own hair or visit your local natural hair stylist for a consultation.
If you're transitioning from locs to loose natural, make sure that you are ready for the change and ask yourself “Why you’re making this change?” Growing locs took a lot of patience and years to form, so going to a loose natural state is a major change. Either way you choose to wear your hair, be Proud, be Confident, be Fierce..You are Beautiful!!!

“The way to ruin a great new look or the opportunity to impress new friends, is by having a less than professional or satisfactory hair color service performed. Before you decide to hide in a closet and promise to never come out again, let me recommend you seek a consultation with a professional color stylist to have your color service performed.
Color Choices: your work environment can affect your color choice. Military, government, and professional settings may not allow trendy, fashionable colors “ie” green, pink or pastels, but instead give preference to brown, black, or dark blonde highlights. Your color choices should flatter your skin tones and eye color. You can use hair color changing apps where you upload your picture and try out different colors before you make your final decision. Using color swatch rings and placing them directly near your face or hands can also help to make a color match.
Note: Check with your employer to make sure you are within your job’s dress code.
Keep in mind that getting a color service may require additional shampoo and conditioning services as well. Be sure to incorporate moisturizing and/or hydrating conditioners to your shampoo regimen. It’s important to use sulfate-free or salt-free shampoos, washing weekly or biweekly to remove build up from the hair. Deep Condition (under a hooded dryer with a cap, a heating cap, or a steamer) with every shampoo session, whether at home or in the salon.
Note: Lighter shades like blondes/pastels will require you to begin using clear, dye free gels and stylers. Using dark colored gels can stain your hair and affect your color, causing it to look dull or muted. High heat/ flat irons/ blow dryers can also cause colors to fade. If you opt to use heat, keep setting below 375 degrees.
Note: Growing out color will require a trim and treatment service to get rid of split ends and provide a protein/moisture balance to the hair.
"I hope this information motivates you to take the next step towards seeking out a professional to provide you with a color service. Remember, making the decision to maintain your investment will keep your color-treated hair healthy and beautiful." - Fawnne

Over the years, we've had the pleasure of partnering with countless talented creators, many of whom have become like family to us. Today, we're passing the mic to a few of these awesome influencers, so they can tell you why they love EDEN!
“My favorite EDEN BodyWorks product is the Natural Curl Defining Creme! It’s such a great product! It defines and moisturizes my curls. It became my fave when I realized I could use it for a one product wash n go! Game changer!” - @watchciwork
“That’s hard because I have two! The Citrus Fusion Hair + Body Butter because it’s so extremely moisturizing, smells great and it’s muti-use. The second is the Papaya Castor Conditioning Hairdress. Again it’s a multi-use product for me; I use it all the time when I’m doing mine or my husband’s hair, it doesn’t matter the style.” - @curlsandcouture
“My favorite EDEN product is the JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner. I love this entire line but the Deep Conditioner gives me a great amount of moisture while strengthening my stands at the same damn time! The jar also lasts forever which is great for my pockets! Love this deep conditioner!” - @maia_poppin
“One of my favorite EDEN products is the Hibiscus Honey Hydration Custard! It was the first EDEN product I ever tried and quickly became a fave because of its versatility. The Hydration Custard can be used for protective styling, as a base for twist outs, wash n gos, braid outs, literally ANYTHING. The Hydration Custard is so moisturizing, smells amazing and leaves my hair feeling super hydrated and shiny.” - @somahriah
“The Almond Marshmallow Therapy Leave In Conditioner currently has my heart! In the past, I completely stayed away from "spray leave-in conditioners" because they would never work for me! Then I tried the entire Almond Marshmallow Collection & it was a game changer! The leave-in works AMAZINGLY and allows the process of moisturizing my hair to be quicker while still being very efficient. Definitely a Must-have product!” - @knotsncurls
“The Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo is a life saver! As a natural hair blogger, I'm constantly experimenting with new products which can sometimes lead to unfavorable results. After having a horrible experience experimenting with a product, using this shampoo for several wash days really helped bring my hair back to life!” - @stephrachel_
“My favorite EDEN product is the Hibiscus Honey Hydration Custard. It’s my everyday goto to moisturize my hair.” - @thevillage_baddie
“Two & Three strand twist outs are my FAVE to do with EDEN because I get two styles in one. Generally, I use the Coconut Shea Leave in Conditioner + Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme -or- Papaya Castor Foam Conditioner + Papaya Castor Nourishing Curl Jam. I can wear my twists for a week knowing the hydration I receive from EDEN will not disappear and when I'm ready to bring my fro out, I simply coat my fingertips with my Papaya Castor Conditioning Hairdress and take down my twists. Boom, EDEN has made a wash day stretch for 2 weeks!” - @thisisdananicole
“Wash + Go’s are my absolute faveeeuh, my OG, my go to- LOL, you get the point. Plus, I quite enjoy allowing my fro to sorta just do its own thing.” - @tropicurlie
“I love using the Papaya Castor Foam Conditioner to create a rod set.” - @heycurlie
“I don’t do many hairstyles, but using the Coconut Shea Leave In as my base will allow all my looks to flourish. Especially my twist outs.” - @naturalpartnersincrime
"My favorite hairstyle to do with an EDEN product is a twist out. My twists always come out moisturized and beautiful." - @heyyyitsmimi
“When I think of EDEN, I think family. EDEN BodyWorks is more than a natural hair brand to me. It's a family of creators and curators that provide a new experience with every event and every new product launch. When I use EDEN, I genuinely feel like the product was hand-crafted with me in mind and my hair loves it. Favorite EDEN memory is my very first CURLFEST repping the brand. I was overwhelmed in the best way from all the love I received from my brand family, but also the naturalistas that attended who recognized me and trusted my judgement when recommending products. This sense of belonging and having my seat at the table with this family is an indescribable feeling.” - @thisisdananicole
“I think about power, black power. Jasmine- a woman of color, defied the odds stacked against us with 16 years of business neatly tucked under her belt. 16 years of creating diverse and inclusive products. 16 years of helping to mend the beauty industry that once didn’t cater to us. All of this while being active in the community with philanthropic efforts to help women, and all of this as a black entrepreneur? Much more- a black female entrepreneur (who are not awarded the same opportunities as their non-POC and male counterparts)? There are so many hurdles that Jasmine, we, us as a community must overcome in a system that just isn’t built for us. I could walk circles around the block going on about how groundbreaking & inspiring her story is. Jasmine has been leading, inspiring & innovating for 16 years and might I add, ever so gracefully and if that isn’t an example of black power, I’m not sure what is. “ - @tropicurlie
“I had been natural for almost a year before trying any EDEN BodyWorks products. I experimented with so many brands and products (high end and drug store) but had never been able to consistently recreate styles until I started using EDEN products. EDEN BodyWorks has products for all hair types and conditions, with natural ingredients for soft, strong, and healthy hair. Although I do still use other brands, every style I execute I always have at least one EDEN product in my routine, whether that begins with my shampoo, deep conditioner, leave-in or styler. I always know what I will get with EDEN products - and that is quality! My hair LOVES EBW.” - @somahriah
“Family comes to mind when I think of EDEN BodyWorks. I’ve been using EDEN since I started my natural hair journey. The brand has been a major part of my life and natural hair journey.” - @heycurlie
“I use hair to inspire others by showing people how beautiful our hair is in its natural state. Contrary to what the media tries to tell us, our curls are beautiful just the way they are. Our hair is so versatile and unique. With the proper knowledge and products, we all can achieve poppin' hairstyles." - @watchciwork
“I'm a skinny, tall girl with big frizzy hair. In the natural hair world, much attention is given to the perfect frizz free curl and coil and we as women have enough to deal with on social media with body shaming if you don't have the "ideal body type" (whatever that is). Styling and showcasing my natural hair in all its craziness offers relatability. It's a confidence thing that I'm trying to communicate. I want my curlfriends/followers to know that the feelings they felt about their hair and body aren't unusual, but that place of self doubt isn't where they need to stay. I hope that sharing my insecurities and journey to acceptance of my hair and body encourage women to give themselves grace but also to make whatever necessary changes they need to expose the beauty within themselves, to themselves. Get that EDEN product, pick up that resistance band and work out; eat that pasta sis! You're STILL poppin'!” - @thisisdananicole
“When I started transitioning natural and subsequently launched Curls and Couture, my goal was to inspire women to love their natural hair and own it. Whether that was in a twist out, locs, braids, blow out, perm rod set, I want them to fall in love with their crown. So I chose to do that by sharing my journey of learning and loving my hair. “ - @curlsandcouture
“I use my hair to inspire others by showing simplicity. If you master a style and love it, keep doing it until you feel like moving on. That’s what I did. Also, my style is as simple as it gets. I want my audience to know that there are people out there that don’t get glammed up everyday and they’re just as awesome!” - @maia_poppin
“How do you use your hair/style to inspire others? By letting others know that styling your own hair can be fun and easy! It's especially fun when you have great products to help you along the way :)” - @syeda_bombom
“Doing my hair is therapeutic. Coloring my hair has now become a part of my signature tresses look. Natural hair is not one dimensional. There are so many options - healthy options that you can turn to, so I hope that anyone that follows me is able to see that & think outside the box for themselves.” - @imaprilchristina
“I use my natural hair journey to inspire my audience to feel more confident in loving their hair and in turn, themselves.” - @kensthetic_
“As a low porosity type 4 natural with medium/high density hair, I use my platform to inspire others with similar hair types to really embrace and care for theirs. Ultimately, with the right techniques, regimen and products, caring for your natural hair is 100% feasible. If I can do it, anybody can!” - @stephrachel_
“I use wash ‘n gos to inspire because I feel like a lot of people think that their natural hair is “too much” or they just don’t know how to deal with it and I want people to see with their very own eyes, what their hair can be capable of doing if they take the time to learn to care for it. I also like to inspire guys. Guys can have natural hair as well. Guys can have NICE natural hair at that.” - @therealdremajor
“I consider myself an average Naturalista, so when I’m able to achieve a great style I always go back to my followers with all my tips and tricks and products used to hopefully help them as well.” - @naturalpartnersincrime
“I wear my natural hair out because I want to inspire females to do the same and to not be ashamed of their coarse natural hair. 4C is beautiful and it should be embraced and taken care of just like any other type of hair. “ - @thevillage_baddie
"There are many people with type 4 hair that want to become natural or want to maintain healthy hair in general, but don’t know exactly where to go. I try to inspire people through my styles and with experience/knowledge so that they can be motivated and excited to do their hair." - @heyyyitsmimi

“Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. Make sure you’re making your physical health a priority by staying active and eating clean, nutrient-rich foods. Eat at least 3 balanced meals a day, get out of the house and go for walks, or get some gym time in a few times a week. Prioritize these necessary acts of self care!”
Serving Washington, DC
“Get Enough Rest. For some, excitement can kick in during the holidays. Sometimes you’ll lose sleep because of stress, and sometimes you’ll lose sleep because of excitement. Either way, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by concentrating on relaxation and getting to bed at a good hour. If you start a pattern of getting less than 7-8 hours of sleep per night, you could be setting yourself up for stress without even really knowing it, thus, making it harder to maintain your mental wellness during this time of year.”
Serving South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee & Florida
“In general, people become more consumed with responding to and meeting the needs of others than they do for themselves. This can lead us to feeling drained, resentful, and just plain unhappy. The holiday season brings these levels higher than normal, as we find ourselves interacting with more folks more frequently, with more demands. I highly recommend for people to use this rule every day, and especially during the holiday season: NO SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL AFTER LUNCH. How we start our day impacts how we live our day out. If your first action of each day is checking on others via social media, you will train your brain to do this throughout the day and will do so compulsively. It ain’t good for ya! Take each morning to focus on YOU first. Wake up and ask yourself how you want to feel today. Then, close your eyes and visualize how you will look and feel today. Doing so will get you in the habit of checking in with YOU first and help you keep your balance a little better this holiday season.”
Serving Inglewood, CA
“We’re about two weeks beyond the dreaded Gregorian calendar box which tricks us to believe we gain an extra hour of sleep. The sun bids us adieu, shortening our daylight hours. This adopted time management system related to agriculture and energy-saving can cause a grand shift in the mental health processes of many. And while an extra hour of sleep seems rewarding, our brains tell a different story: Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as seasonal depression may be a negative consequence November through early spring. Want to know a practical way to increase the amount of serotonin, the neurotransmitter thought to be responsible for your mood, sleep, appetite, and social behavior? Create your own sunshine. That’s right, I said it. But, how? Creating your own sunshine means laying out boundaries in your environment to reduce triggers. Because frankly, who can see the sun when clouds are in the way? This can mean not going to a family holiday dinner because a personality there upsets you, instead, start your own tradition. It can also mean easing into your day utilizing a light box or not checking social media until after 12pm. Engage in activities which warm your soul: reading, mindful eating, traveling, or connecting with a licensed mental health therapist to work through your mental climate."

“Grieving a loss during the holiday season can be complicated by the expectations that others have of you to be connected, joyous, and ‘ok’. Allowing yourself the space and time to ‘feel’ will make engaging less emotionally taxing. In an effort to fill a void that invariably recurs every year, be intentional about: 1.) Creating new traditions to commemorate your loved one(s); 2.) Connecting with professionals to talk, or close family and friends to share special memories; and 3.) Chronicling your thoughts for reflection each year. Give yourself permission.”

For best results, we recommend applying a quality deep conditioner once a week (definitely no less than twice a month). Cover hair with a plastic cap and sit under a heated dryer for 15-40 minutes for added intensity!

My name is Lashawn (ShawnCutMaster). I’m a Curl Stylist from Philadelphia. I’ve been a hairstylist for 19 years. For the last 12 years, I’ve worked exclusively with textured hair after seeing a void of Curl Stylists in my area. There aren’t many salons that focus exclusively on curls and/or how to care for them so along with my business partner, we opened Curls, Kinks and Coils Curl Studio to cater to women with textured hair. Although tight curls are my specialty, I service all textures of curly hair. I have made it my mission as a stylist to make sure my guests receive the best salon experience, superior products, and the most up to date education I can provide for them. I wholeheartedly believe that, “Curly hair is not just a hairstyle but a lifestyle!”
In my years as a Curl Stylist, the biggest concern from clients seems to be, “How do I get and maintain curl definition,” particularly with tight curlies. The truth is, curl definition starts at the shampoo bowl. Before I ask, “What styling products are you using,” I find out what my guests are cleansing and conditioning with. Often times I find they pre-poo with oil, “detox” with bentonite clay, and/or use harsh sulfate-laced shampoos, just to name a few. Once I get to the styling products, it’s even worse! Truth is, curls need water! They need lots of it, and require it very often in order to stay hydrated - much like our human bodies. Oil and filmy products leave buildup on the hair, causing curls to become dehydrated, dry, and frizzy. When hair is properly hydrated and free of buildup, curls will begin to elongate and naturally clump together. At that point, using water-soluble styling products helps curls to stay defined.
I recommend clients refrain from using oil on their hair and scalp (on a regular basis) in order to maintain optimal curl definition at home. I know this is a hard pill to swallow because oiling our hair has been used to combat dryness for generations; however, many misuse it to tackle hair that's actually dehydrated, rather than dry. Oil coats the hair, acting as a barrier that repels water away, which makes it difficult for products to penetrate the hair (ex. like a daily moisturizer). If you're not sure what products work best or when to use oil in your routine, consult a Curl Stylist for guidance.
If you are new to Wash 'n Gos, I suggest finding a Curl Stylist in your area to help you along your journey. Your stylist will prescribe a cleansing and styling regimen exclusively for your curl texture. The curly hair journey can be challenging in the beginning but I promise it’s totally worth it!

If the hair is properly hydrated and tucked away to limit daily manipulation, it’s a go! Caring for the scalp is also a must! Regular application of water-based products is essential to keep roots and tresses healthy through the duration of the style. This means that a simple bun or ponytail can even be a viable option, when styled with care. However, part of the fun in protective styling is finding a way to also make it glam!
#EDENCurlfriend Dani Elaine is here to help provide a little creative inspo!
Watch as she crafts this FABULOUS sleek puff ponytail look, using just a few essential products!
1. Thoroughly apply Coconut Shea Leave In Conditioner to wet + detangled, freshly washed hair.
2. Gently brush hair back into a secure ponytail.
3. Apply Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme along the roots and loose ends of ponytail for added moisture + frizz prevention.
4. Braid the ponytail + secure ends with a hair tie.
5. Smooth down edges by applying Coconut Shea Control Edge Glaze with a brush.
6. Wrap a hair tie around 1 pack of desired hair extensions, then secure the tie + extension tightly over the base of your natural braid/ponytail. Make sure the faux hair fully covers your natural braid.
7. Add 2-3 rubber bands along the length of the faux hair, spaced a few inches apart from each other.
8. Fasten silver or gold craft string around the last rubber band for an added pop of style!

Feel free to pass these three along to anyone who may need some sense of direction.
Now of course with cold weather comes new hair routines. Our hair may either get dry and brittle or it just doesn't soak up our products as well as it usually would. During this time, you definitely want to give your hair that TLC it deserves and show it what it's been missing. [Helpful tip: Deep conditioning is a MUST for all hair types, especially during cooler months.] In my case, I make sure my hair is hydrated and protected. I tend to keep my ends tucked away more often and find myself wearing my hair out less, especially since hats become a wardrobe staple in order to keep warm. Twists and braids are some of the quickest and easiest ways to tend to your hair's needs. Plus, they can be very low maintenance. Just re-twist whenever you feel it necessary, and go. That’s it. It’s a true life saver for those chillier months. I find that 4 chunky twists and my favorite cap are always a go to for me. It’s simple and CUTE! Give it a shot this season [and be sure your routine includes an ample moisturizer for your hair, scalp and ends as well].
Lastly, comes the fun part. We all get super excited when it comes to Fall wardrobes and before we know it we’re back in our sweaters and coats. I LOVE Fall fashion. My motto is, if it’s comfy, nothing else matters. I love my baggy jeans, boots, and oversized sweaters. I also love anything wool. It’s warm and comes in all colors. Some of my fave pieces have come from either thrifting, Forever21, H&M, or even my mom's closet. Who doesn’t love a great vintage piece? Switching up your wardrobe to go with the times doesn’t have to be difficult. Go with your gut and stick with what works for you. Take a look at your color palette and see what colors you gravitate towards most. Find ways to revamp those pieces this Fall and have fun with it! Let this Fall season be a reminder to connect with yourself and replenish your spirit. Find enlightenment in all things and stay true, but most of all, have fun this season!
XoXo, Alley.

We love seeing the unique ways that a wrap can be used to adorn the hair, so we’re taking a moment to provide style inspiration via a couple of our Curlfriends who wrapped their tresses with this custom scarf!
@kittkettle
Throw your hair up into a pineapple! Next, wrap the scarf around your head, tying its ends into a bow at the front. Then, voila! Look complete! A major perk of this style is that it doesn’t have to be neat to look fabulous! It’s the perfect ‘do for those days where you just don’t have the time. Try adding a few spritzes of the Hibiscus Honey Hair Tonic to help refresh + provide quick nourishment!
@thevillage_baddie
Two high buns + a headband make a great hair day! Part your hair down the center, separating into two sections. Add a little moisture (we suggest using the Papaya Castor Nourishing Curl Jam), then tie each half up into a bun. For a shine boost, rub the Papaya Castor Conditioning Hairdress between your fingertips, and smooth it along the hair to help keep the style sleek, and frizz-free.
@kittkettle
Goodbye bonnet! Wrap the scarf around your head turban-style, for a much cuter alternative to protect your hair as you sleep. Or, wear this look out! It’s bold, beautiful, and it will keep your curls protected all day long without anyone knowing what’s going on underneath the scarf! You could even use it to disguise a deep conditioning session!

]]>The 25th Annual ESSENCE Festival went down in NOLA, per usual, but it was our first time popping up at the show! Of course, EDEN showed up + showed out.
We made such a statement that ESSENCE named our Papaya Castor Scalp Massaging Serum as one of the hottest new products of the summer!
Brunch is nothing new for us, we've been doing #BrunchWithEDEN for years (since 2012). For our 2016 reboot we upped the ante and brought our friend-brands: Urban Skin RX, The Lip Bar, and The Honey Pot. Jasmine Lawrence, founder EDEN BodyWorks spilled tea with the rest of the founders Rachel Rof and Beatrice Feliu Espada (respectively) on Lizzo, self-care, team building, current Netflix binges, and business. All of our guests walked away with EDEN Minis of our Papaya Castor Collection, as well as a gifts complimentary of our panel partners. Make sure you're signed up for our newsletter to keep in the loop for the next one.
We don't mean to brag but our Coconut Shea Control Edge Glaze gave us another summer of sleek, neat and polished edges! It's an OG summer style staple. Don't take our word for it though, read the review below.
Black women owned brands. That's it. That's the statement and that's the intention behind our collaborations. All summer long our Curlfriends have been slaying the silk wrap game with this custom scarf designed by Ashley L. Fouyolle, a black female founder and owner of Unwrp. In celebration of our Papaya Castor spring launch, Unwrp made sure to create a special gift that gives style and hair protection.
We celebrated the big 1-5 in August. That's 15 years EDEN BodyWorks has been championing beautiful healthy hair as nature intended, perfected by you. Without you where would we be? So this is as much a celebration for you as it is for us. Thank you for your love and support!
What were your top 5 memories of Summer 2019? Or maybe you tried something new from EDEN this summer. We'd love to hear from you. Leave us a note in the comments!

A: The Hairdress can be used several ways:
- Melt it in your hands and apply it like a pomade for sleek buns + up dos
- Apply to ends as a moisture + protection treatment
- Use it as a primer for twists
- Use it to soften hair for braiding (melt in hands, apply, then braid)
- Apply to straight or curly hair for added sheen/shine
A: Finding the products that work best with your hair type actually depends on a number of factors including, but not limited to its porosity. The density of your hair plays a role, protein sensitivity, and several other aspects such as regimen and technique. So keep in mind, your hair could still like items from a collection that isn’t suggested for your porosity type. With that said, below are our recommendations.
Low Porosity (difficult for moisture to penetrate the hair shaft): JojOba Monoi, Hibiscus Honey, Almond Marshmallow, Peppermint Tea Tree, Citrus Fusion, and Coconut Shea in some instances (see how to create a cute protective style using this collection).
High Porosity (hair absorbs moisture quickly): Coconut Shea (especially for thicker textures), Papaya Castor and Peppermint Tea Tree.
A: The Almond Marshmallow Therapy Leave-In Conditioner is a lightweight formula that works best when used on wet, freshly washed hair. Follow up with the Almond Marshmallow Hydration Serum. It acts as a shine-boosting gelly that will seal in moisture and give great definition. This duo makes for a poppin’ wash ‘n go!
A: It’s a liquid hair vitamin (for external use only). Spray it on for added nourishment + moisture before or after styling. It can also be used as a daily refresher for loose or protective styles. The tonic has a lightweight, liquid consistency, so it is not heavy like some oils.

We've prepared a few tips to help make the transition into campus life as smooth as possible. Enjoy!
Create a Study/Focus Playlist
Listening to music while studying or doing homework is nothing new. Familiar tunes can block out the distractions of your environment. However, try creating a playlist of songs without lyrics.
It can be hard to resist singing along when listening to your favorite Lizzo or Beyonce while studying. They're great, but when you need to focus, an impromptu jam session is probably not going to help. Give smooth jazz or even classical music a try.
It's proven that they can help stimulate the mind to do its best work. If you can't picture yourself jumping right into those genres, start out by just listening to the instrumental versions of your favorite songs; baby steps count too!
Protective Styles for the Win
No matter how much you love taking care of your hair, chances are you'll start to find it harder to make time for it with your new class, study, + social schedule. To help make your hair routine quicker and easier, without sacrificing the cuteness, opt for protective styles throughout the semester.
Whether it's braids, twists, wigs, or something in between, low maintenance styles are a must-have! Keep great scalp care items on hand, like our Peppermint Tea Tree or the Papaya Castor collection, and a solid daily moisturizer, such as the Hibiscus Honey Hair Tonic, and your hair will be healthy and happy + you'll save tons of time!
Establish a Self-Care Routine
As the school year progresses, your schedule will likely become extremely hectic. It is vital to establish a self-care routine to not only keep up with hygiene, but also to maintain your sanity while studying and navigating college life. Set aside one afternoon or evening a week to pamper yourself. Mark it on your schedule to assure that you actually make time for it.
This routine should not just be for your physical health (hair, skin, etc.), but also your mental and emotional health. Take time to journal, pray, meditate, watch your favorite YouTube guru, whatever it is you need to do to take care of you, even if it's just taking a good nap!
Establishing healthy study habits early
No one enjoys a game of catch-up, especially with their grades. Establishing healthy study habits will make your life so much easier. Get a daily planner to keep you on track and avoid procrastination. Also, it can be tempting to study in your dorm or apartment surrounded by friends, however, it's not always the most productive.
Early in the school year, determine the most productive spot to do your work. Maybe it's the library, computer lab, or perhaps your dorm building has a study room. Once you've determined where you can study in peace, designate that as your daily working place.
Make it a habit to go there to complete all of your homework + prep for exams. If you habitually do this, you may be able to eliminate the unnecessary stress of all-nighters.
Encourage Yourself
It's easy to get down on yourself, especially when you're immersed in the stresses of school, roommates, work, and a number of other factors. You must actively work to keep yourself encouraged.
Try finding and setting your mind on a different motivational quote each week. Focus on it and repeat it to yourself like an affirmation, until you truly believe it! If you have to set it as the home screen on your phone, or plaster it to your dorm wall, do that!
Self -confidence is key, so whatever you do, keep your spirits high and often remind yourself of the gem that you are.
“I thrive on obstacles. If I’m told that it can’t be done, then I push harder,” - Issa Rae.
And on that note, we hope you take on this new school year in confidence! In the comments below, be sure to share your favorite back-to-school tip.
